About Vagdevi

Aims & Objectives:

  • To create an awareness about communication impairments through public education and multimedia.
  • Early diagnosis through mass screening of infants.
  • Develop infrastructure for prevention, diagnosis and intervention with emphasis on rural areas.
  • Allow equal opportunities in education for children with disabilities to inculcate moral, ethical and social values amongst young children to become responsible citizens of the country.
  • Creation of a resource centre that would be an information storehouse for the communication impaired.


Integrated Classroom

Teachers Training Programme:
Centre is planning to start a full-fledged one-year multi0level training programme to create manpower required for training in similar setup. It is proposed to start a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrated Education from 1st June 2004. Centre had conducted an international workshop on Feuerstein Methodology for the first time in India. 30 participants including clinical psychologists, special and regular educators, speech language therapists were trained.

    Vocational Training Centre:
    After establishing functional literacy depending on the aptitude of the children pre-vocational training is being implemented.


Hearing testing

Speech and Hearing Centre:
Infants, Children, adults and senior citizens receive diagnosis, therapy and counselling services for various speech and language and swallowing disorders such as Aphasia (loss of speech following a stroke), Dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing), stuttering (stammering), misarticulation (unintelligible speech), voice disorders and specific learning disabilities (such as reading or writing disability in particular).

Community based Rehabilitation in Rural areas:
Parents of communication – impaired children receive intensive training to educate their children in their own environment without having to relocate. For illiterate parents, a caregiver is identified within the community and training is imparted to that person enabling him/her to carry on the rehabilitation activities at the grass root level.
